Question
I've been out of town for two weeks and my Father was caring for my animals. I have two adult rabbits and one baby g.pig. Apparently a few days after I left he ran out of g.pig food and instead of going to the store to get more he fed her rabbit food until I got back. She hasn't eaten since Sunday (not even fruits or hay)and she hasn't used the bathroom since yesterday morning. I took her to the vet Tues and he said she was fine just lonely and I needed to get another one to go with her and she would start to eat again. There aren't a lot of pet stores in this area and I haven't been able to find one but now that I have found out about him feeding her the rabbit food I wonder if she could have been poisoned instead... what do you think and what can I do if she has?

Answer
feeding a guinea pig rabbit food would be like feeding a cat dog food, its not poisonous, but is doesnt meet her nutritional requirements. infact i once fed my guinea pig hamster food for a night because hamster had died and I had ran out of guinea pig food. the vet is probably right, one thing that might cheer her up is a good graze, something which both your rabbits and guinea pig should do as much as possible, they are after all grazing animals by nature, and being surrounded by fresh grass is often an incentive to start eating.

do you keep your guinea pig with the rabbits, if so i would recommend seperating them, it is possible that she is being bullied by them and not being allowed to eat.

if not then when you let her graze, if she still does not eat place the rabbits in another part of the run but partitioned from her, seeing other grazing animals eating the grass should spur her on.
