guinea pig lice

Question
How do you get rid of guinea pig lice??? And how would my indoor guinea pig get lice?? Please reply ASAP as I'm scared that I mite be allergic to the bites as I'm allergic to flea bites and not sure if its the same?! Thank you

well mites are very common in guinea pigs, though the good things is that they cannot survive on humans, you might get one or two bites but it is uncommon and any mites that might try to live on you will die quite quickly.

to treat just do the following.

nip down to the local vets and get some anti lice spray or shampoo

if the pig has parts of the fur that looks sore then get some tea tree oil cream and use it on the sore areas after using the shampoo or spray, treat as it says on the bottle and everything should be fine.

as a side note also check the inside of their ears making sure that they do not look sore, flakey or scabbed, if so then you will also need some ear drops which you should also be able to buy at the local pet shop.
