fleas

Question
Recently a wild rat got into my guinea pig hutch.  Can my guinea pigs catch fleas from the rat.  Also as they are both rodents will the fleas stay wih the guinea pigs until treated?  I have noticed small black flecks in their coats.

Actually, its quite a disputed fact that guinea pigs are rodents due to the formation of their jaw and teeth. Anyhow, that wasnt your question. :)

Your piggies could certainly catch fleas so I recommend you use a small animal antibacterial shampoo to treat your piggies.
