just addoped pigs

Hi Jules,
 I just rescued two guinea pig girls about a week ago. I am just wondering what the best way to socialize them to me. I have been bribing them with romaine and handling them a bit and hanging out on the floor with them as much as I can each day...any other advice?

I have also read that you can litter train Cavies, any advice on if this is actually possible and how to go about it?

Hi Eva,

You're doing fine socializing with them. Just try to handle them a little bit more so they get use you and being handled. Also just sit with them on your lap, petting them and talking to them. Otherwise it sounds like you are doing wonderful socializing with them.

Yes, you can litter pan train Cavies. You have to remember though that even though they are litter pan trained they will still go outside of the pan, but it'll be less often. Buy a litter pan (doesn't have to be big or anything just a medium size one) fill it with litter and place it in the spot where they go the most. All Guinea Pig have a certain conner outside of their sleeping areas, that they go the bathroom. So place the pan there and place a little hay or one of their favorite treats in the conner, so they have a reason to get in it and getting use to having it around. After about a month they'll be doing most of their business in the pan, with little bits of business outside of the pan.
