My guinea pig has gone off celery!

Question
Hello, my guinea pig is almost 2 and seems healthy. He loves his food however he seems to have gone off celery! It used to be his favourite food but now he snubs it! I'm not concerned about him as he still loves his other favourite foods, but am very curious as to why he seems to have 'gone off' celery. any ideas?
Thanks, Hannah

Answer
It's not unusual for a pig to decide he wants something different. Mine don't care for celery at all, but love lettuce and parsley. As long as he's otherwise just fine, offer him a change. Carrots are a favorite with most pigs, but each have their own special likes and dislikes. It's not going to affect his well being in any way if he won't take the celery.

As the days get warmer and the summer fruits like watermelon and cantaloupe are available you might try offering him some of that. But here's the good part, they like the rinds of the melons better than the sweet parts that we eat. So you feast on the juicy inside of the melon and cut some small pieces of the rind up for your pig. What better way to use up the part that would otherwise be discarded.
