Question
hey! I live in India. i just got a cute piggy yesterday. when he was here he was making cute little sounds. and today he ain't really responding. i want to know, is it fine if we carry him in our hands for long? and if we put on some soft music, will that make him happy? and how many times should we feed him in a day? and will he be more comfortable in a cold place or does he like it warm? he's 2 months old.

Answer
Congratulations on your new pig. If you've never owned one before this is a real treat.  You can hold him and play with him all you want. It won't hurt him. It's not uncommon for them not to be vocal all the time. Give him some time to settle in.

Usually I recommend leaving him pretty much alone for the first week to allow him to get used to the sights and sounds of his new surroundings. Once he does he should start making those cute little noises again.

I keep music in my caviary most of the time. If find it helps acclimate the pigs to the sound of human voices and noise. I like soft music myself, so that's what they hear as well.

As for feeding, he should have a bowl of pellets in his cage all the time. Guinea pigs are grazing animals, meaning they eat all the time. Keep a water bottle fresh for him and he should stay healthy.  I personally don't like water bowls because the pigs tend to get into it and foul the water.

As for climate, they actually like the cooler climate rather than warm. Remember that germs and bacteria grow in warm, moist places.  So if he's in a cooler room he will be most comfortable.

Again, congratulations on your new pet.
