drinking too much, and pink urine

Question
Hi, i have 2 cavies both female Queen(7 months old) and Lady(9 months old) and i change there cage once a week, give them fresh food and water every day. Well just last night i noticed that Queen had completely drank all of her 16oz water bottle within 7 hours. And just this morning when i went to change there cage i noticed the urine was a little pink. im not sure which one it is, but i think its im assuming queen. She doesn't have any other symptoms, and Lady is fine i havent noticed anything with her. i'm not sure if this could mean she is in heat, or kidney stones, should i take them to the vet? And i feed them fruits and vegetables, i give them "Yesterdays Newspaper" as bedding and guinea pig food from petsmart. Thank you in advance

Answer
Hello Kristi,

Her food could have colored her urine (especially if she's had some strongly colored fruits or veggies) but the drinking so much sends up a red flag. It sounds like there very well could be a problem with her kidneys or possibly even diabetes or liver issues. I would certainly reccommend a vet visit just to be safe. All of those things are best caught and treated early and drinking more is typically a first (and sometimes only) sign of all 3. Good luck. I hope Queen is better soon.
