Question
Hi my skinny pig is 4 years old. Last night i found him lying on his side having a sesure. It was really sudden. He has sesures all night. Today he was ok tries to eat, drink, but seems to weak and is acting like he is blind. He is running around but he wants back up to be held. he dosnt want to be alone.

Answer
I'm so sorry to hear this Ryan. It's must be a terrible thing to have to see.

Strokes don't typically manifest themselves by seizures. A stroke is a hemorrhage in the brain, causing either temporary or permanent paralysis on one side of the body. A seizure is an overload of electrical activity in the brain and causes the jerking motions so often seen when they happen. There are other kinds of seizures that are barely noticeable to the average person, but are there none the less.

The cause of the seizure may be difficult to find. It can be anything from a genetic defect, a parasite or poisoning.  Without extremely expensive tests it's impossible to say. But even knowing what causes it may not make it go away.

It's very possible he has indeed lost his vision. I think the best thing for you to do is take him to your vet to be examined.  Hopefully he can tell you if he is blind or if there is any treatment he can offer to ward off any further seizure activity.

Skinny Pigs have unique needs in the cavy world. Their systems are not like ordinary guinea pigs and therefore make them more sensitive to their environment. Please take him to your vet and hopefully these episodes can be prevented from happening again.
