QuestionMy guinea pig is about 10 weeks old and I have had her 1 1/2 weeks. I have read both that I should leave her alone, hold her alot but for short periods of time until she gets used to me. Also, give her a house to hide in, don't give her a house right away. Which is correct?
She nibbles on me and bit me once (drawing blood). She makes a purring sound and pushes my hand away with her head. What does all of this mean?
If I wanted to get her another guinea pig, should I wait until she is very tame or get one now and tame them both at once?
Also, she is very cute and funny. She is very playful at night and I love her alot. Her name is Ginger and I saved for 8 months to buy her and all she needs. I have read everybook in the library about guinea pigs. thanks for helping me.

AnswerHi Lauren: She doesn't need a house, but if you want to give her one by all means-it won't do any harm. Try petting her while she is in the cage at first, scratching her nose when she pushed up on your hand. That means scratch harder! Offer a treat after you pet her so she has something to look forward to. I would wait until you have her tame, that way you aren't overloaded trying to tame down 2 piggies and care for them food/water/etc. The purring sound probably comes when you are petting her over her back or rump, she may just be a bit "ticklish" - your parents might be able to explain that a bit better. I hope this helps you a little bit!

PS - wash your hands before you hold her and she won't smell anything tasty on you - you probably smelled like her food or veggies and that is why she bit you.
