discharge?

Question
The discharge is not the color of diarhea. It is more of a creamy substance. She won't eat veggies, but we do give her treats with vitamins.

Question -
My piggie is about a month or two old.  Recently she had some discharge.  Its kind of a brown color, very think and very sticky.  It smells pretty bad.  We noticed a lot of discharge the first day and the next two days there was hardly any.  She still smells though.  She is acting normal and seems to be in good health otherwise. Any suggestions?

Answer -
It sounds like diarrea, has she been eating a lot of veggies and fruits lately, mainly iceberg lettuce or celery? Too much fruit or veggies especially at her age can cause diarrea, and diarrea does smell really bad, especially in guinea pigs. You can try giving her 1/8 tsp of childrens Kaopectate directly in the mouth, use an oral medication syringe. This should get rid of any diarrea, also take her off any fruits and veggies for a week, but give her unlimited hay, also pigs do good on oats, just regular oatmeal. Other than diarrea she could possibly have a kidney, bladder or uterus infection. Usually females that just gave birth can have a red brown discharge but it doesn't smell and at her age she shouldn't have that problem. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Answer
She most likely has then a vaginal infection, either yeast, a fungus, or bacterial, bacterial infections are more common in guinea pigs. She will need to go see a vet to get antibiotics, that is the treatment for this type of infection, although if it is fungal in orgin she will need an anti-fungal medication from a vet. In her case though I am pretty sure it is bacterial. She is now sterile after this too, she will not be able to have babies ever. That is where the smell is coming from also, infections tend to produce rather bad smells.
