Solitary Guinea Pig

Question
Today one of our guinea pigs died leaving a sister who is aged 5 and alone. We are all very concerned as it happened so quickly but we want to do our best for Caramel. Should we introduce a new guinea pig or rabbit even or is she best left alone and just made a fuss of?

Answer
Hi Rosy

First of all, I am very sorry to hear about your loss, I know exactly how sad you must feel.

It is definately not a good idea to put a rabbit with caramel. They have very different dietary requirements and rabbits can injure piggies easily.

My advice would be to monitor caramel's behaviour over the next 2-3 days. You will know if she is sad if she is fluffed up in the corner of the cage. If this is the case, it may well be worth either getting a new female piggy to keep her company or to spend more time with her yourself.

If I can be of any more help, please do not hesitate to contact me.

All the best.

Andy
