Question
QUESTION: I have two Guinea Pigs (a male and a female)the female is 3 years old and the male is 1 year is it ok for them to breed??  please e-mail me at chase__hey@hotmail.com
ANSWER: Hello Chase,

No. Females should not be bred after the age of 9 months. At the age of one year their pelvic bones harden and make deliever difficult if not impossible without a C-Section. Without a C-Section you will likely lose the mother and the pups.

QUESTION: are you sure that it is not ok?? (i am not saying that you are wrong) but i looked it up on google that the female guinea pigs can't breed in till they are 12 months?

Answer
Hello Chase,

Having bred for several years in the past and raised several litters, I'm absolutely positive. The google site may have had a typo on it. They shouldn't be breed after 9 months old because they have to give birth before they are 12 months old or they will suffer from dystocia. Here are a few links about Guinea Pig breeding and dystocia you may find useful. There are many more available, just type "Dystocia Guinea Pig" into any search engine and you will find hundreds. Good luck.
