Question
guinea pigs nipple
guinea pigs nipple
Hello I'm stephanie. I had 2 guinea pigs that lived together one was a male and the other is female. The male got ill about 3 days ago and stopped eating completely and today sadly he passed away :( but I think my female is pregnant and I don't know how to check. She is very fat in the lower part of her body and her 2 nipples at the bottom are very long and she has started eating so much! Could you help me and how much is it to get it pregnancy checked at the vets!
I have attatched a picture of her nipple to see and maybe help you understand!

Thank you stephanie

Answer
well nipples aren't really the main indicator for being pregnant but thanks for the photo, by the sounds of the shape and the fact that she has probably been with an unneutered male for more than fifteen days it means she will almost certainly be. looking to see if she is pregnant is pretty self evident so I doubt a vet would charge more than a standard consultation but to be quite honest he would just be stating the obvious, rather than pying the vet just wait it out a little bit, the more pear shape she becomes then the more apparent it is that she is pregnant. if not or if she has been with the male for a very long time then it might be something more serious, though I heavily doubt that it is anything other than pregnancy.

it usually takes 60-70 days from conception to term, and she will have become pregnant mostly likly from the first fifteen days of being with the male, this should give you a rough idea of when the expect the babies.

best of luck
