cage biting

I have 2 pairs of guinea pigs which I keep in 2 cages.  They have just been put into the same room and one is now insisting on trying to bite through the bars of his cage all night.  it is making a terrible noise and keeping me awake.  Why is he doing it?

I presume the two cages are quite close together? Can you also tell me the genders of the 4 pigs.

I feel sure that, depending on the answers to these questions, the one that is biting the cage is trying to get to the pigs in the other cage.

However, I will know more when I get the answer to those two questions.
