Question
Hi, My guinea pig has babies!!! 2 cuddly fluffy piggies!! now they r about 5 and a half hours old!!!! how exactly do i have to care for them!! should i handle them at such a young age? is all the food appropriate fir them? should i make them a bowl of water instead of a the nozzle? i had taken the male out of the cage as he began to run after the mother!! is that good? or shall i put him back in the cage?

thanks
daniela

Answer
Just keep the same food in the cage, make sure to keep plenty of hay in there, and add oats in the cage, the babies will nibble on the food. Leave the waterbottle in there, but move it down so the babies could reach it if they want. They will drink milk for a while, but they will experiment with the waterbottle and food also. Just hold them in the palm of your hand, make sure they do not fall at all, they might be scared at first. Yes, keep the male out of the cage, as I wrote in my last email, hopefully she is not pregnant already, because the females do go into heat after delivery.
