PLEASE HELP, IM DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT MY GUINEA PIG!

Question
Hello, my guinea pig has had a badly watering eye since yesterday. He is tilting his head to the side of his face that his eye is leaking and rubbing it on things. He has not been squealing for me and has been laying down with his piece of fleece all day. He has still been eating. He is my first guinea pig so I don't know what to do! I do not have a vet that sees guinea pigs near me. I love this little guy and hope he is okay. Please respond!

Answer
It sounds like he has a foreign body in his eye and it hurts just like it does when we get something in our eye. You can get some eyewash solution at the drugstore that's made for people with eye problems, contact lenses, etc.

Hold the bottle above his eye and gently squirt the solution into the eyeball. Hopefully that will help wash it out. He could have scratched his eye or scrapped it on something, but irrigating it with an eyewash solution should help give him relief and help it heal.

The fact that he's eating is a good sign. He's probably less active because he hurts, and that's not abnormal. If his appetite is still good that's an excellent sign that he's not ill. So try the eye wash and see if he doesn't get relief from whatever it is that's there.
