lice!

I adopted 2 guinea pigs last week, and only just now found a small cluster of lice on one of them.  Is this something that happens all the time?  After I treat it this time, am I going to continuously have to deal with it?  Also, am I going to have to  disinfect my entire house now?

Lice can be a common problem, depending on where you buy your guinea pig from. Get the treatment from the pet store specially formulated for guinea pigs and carefully follow the directions. You may have to use it again in about 2 weeks just to make sure the lice did not reproduce. Continue to do it every other week or every 2 weeks for at least a month and a half or so. After that, see if the lice have stopped coming back. It usually takes more than one usage. You will not have to disinfect your house.
