Question
Hello

How big should a cage be for one?

What can I give my gp to play with?

Answer
Hello.

A cage should be large enough for the guinea pig to do laps. When guinea pigs are given appropriate space, they will run around and generally be happier pigs.

If you go to this website.   www.cavycages.com
They let you know the actual measurements for a cage, and how to make a homemade cage that's cheap and large. I myself made the cubes and coroplast cage and have spent 50 dollars making it, and it's big enough for my 4 pigs to do laps. It's pretty big!

Now, for guinea pig toys. You can give them the following:

Toilet paper rolls filled with hay
Cat balls (i use the kind that are plastic and have the bell inside)
Cardboard boxes made into tunnels (just turn upside down and create entrances and exits)
PVC pipe (bought at any hardware store for about 3-5 dollars)
Empty oatmeal containers
Wooden chew blocks
Bricks (I lay 2 side by side and the pigs will climb/sleep)
Hidey homes

Remember, guinea pigs can see in color so i like to put things with different / bright colors in the cage. I try also to change up my cage a little everytime i clean it out. The pigs get excited by the change. The best toy really though is another pig. Guinea pigs can become bored or lonely without companionship.

Another great website that i find informational is:

Hope this helps.
