Question
Hi, thanks for taking questions!  I have a mother piggy that had her 2nd litter and 2 were stillborn and the other 2 lived 7 days, were very skinny and small unlike her 1st litter of 2 we kept were very healthy and very big babies(now huge boys).  What do you think went wrong?  The mother is med. size and healthy and I always give her and the daddy and her other 2 babies extra vit. c., hay, and pellets everyday and carrots occasional.  Did I do something wrong?  Since the babies were small should I have feed them handfeed?.. they were nursing seemed.  Was very unexpected since they hung on 7 days.

Thanks for your help and mother pig is  beautiful tri colored and has unique colored babies, want to breed her with daddy again, but is that out of question?  Do you think if I breed again she'd have healthy ones again?   One more possibility is that maybe the baby boys got her pregnant and inbreeds die?  Doubt very seriously the boys did, cause had them out I think at right time. Thanks! Appreciate it!  Shannon

Answer
Hi Shannon.  Hmmm....Are you sure she got milk in?  I am trying to think what could cause her to lose both babies at once.  It is possible they both had some kind of genetic defect - maybe something that is passed on only 25% or the time or something like that.  You mentioned they were skinny/small which has me thinking she didn't get milk in leaving their immune systems weak.  I would try breeding her with daddy again, but give her a month or 2 off.  She needs time to recover from whatever caused those babies to die.  A lot of breeders will breed mother to son or father to daughter with no problem whatsoever.  Now maybe if you did that for 5 or 6 generations that would cause problems, but not from one generation.
I hope this gives you a few ideas!
