Guinea Pig Hairloss

Question
I was wondering about getting another female. My guinea pig doesnt seem defensive or agressive but I asked the lady at petco about putting two females in the same cage and how they would get along. She said that they would probably fight. The ones they have now aren't babies so they would be a little smaller than her, but my guinea pig has never bit me. She hasn't attempted either, I have another cage if they don't get along, but I would prefer to have them in same cage. Only problem is my other cage is an aquarium is about a 40 gallon, that's why I wouldn't want to seperate them. The cage I have now is a mesh with a high purple bottom, its 40 length, 18 width, and 20 height. If they did get along do they prefer company or would rather be alone? If they did like company would it be better to get a younger guinea pig or about the same age? I'm guessing same age because it would be able to defend itself from the other one, instead of ending up dead. Thank you for the last letter I really wish there was a way to send a picture of my guinea pig because I'm thinking maybe its hair is sopose to be that way it's a ruffled up on its back. Because the hair towards the lower end of the back is where the hair swirls out > toward the head, then the hair by the head goes towards the rear < like a normal guinea pig. So it clashes should it do that?

It won't straighten out since it's against the way the hair grows, are they normally rufffled? I have a book and all but I like to hear it from people who know.

Answer
Hi Marie and thanks for the question,

Two females will get along great if there is no male near them. What you should do is get two cages and put one in each and put them next to each other. Thatway their scents can mix and they can get used to each other without actual contact. After a couple days of this, put them together and watch them. If they get too rowdy, seperate them and try again in a couple more days. You have nothing to worry about along the "killing each other" lines. GPs do NOT kill each other but fighting to establish dominance is part of a GP's instincts and is normal. Only seperate them if it gets out of hand.

I am giving you a couple links. Check these guys out. One is a "Crested" and one is an "Abysinian". Both are perfectly normal "hairstyles" for GPs. My boar is actuallt an Abysinian and he is very cute.
