Guinea pig eye question

Hi there, we just got a guinea pig on Friday and noticed yesterday that he seems to be developing conjunctivitis in his eye. I called our local vet (which will not see guinea pigs, but informed me that if I have a childrens eye drop or antibiotic eye salve used for treating this condition I can use it on our piggie?  Can you help?  I do not want to do anything that may cause further harm, to his eye.

your vet is right,most childrens eye ointment is safe to use on guinea pigs.
I recommend Golden Eye Ointment if you can get it.
Any brand recommended for kids is fine and most chemists will sell on or the other.
Have someone hold your piggy and gently pull down the lower part of the eye,smear a little bit of the ointment along the rim and massage it in very carefully and very gently.
