travel with guinea pigs

Question
I recently got a guinea pig and I was wondering, is it ok to take him to work with me daily?  I teach in a third grade classroom, but I would not allow kids to hold him and the class is small so we are usually pretty quiet.  I live about 30 minutes from the school.  I'm looking to get him a friend but in the meantime I don't want him to be too lonely all day while I'm at work.  Thank you for your help!

Answer
the guinea pig community is split on this, some say you shouldn't it will stress them out, others (like me) think it can be okay a few things provided.

firstly travel will be better with a friend, which sort of defeats the purpose of taking him, but so long as you provide a secure place for him to hide in his cage then it should be fine, although on the whole a think he would be better off living in either the classroom or your home as I doubt the gawking children will help his nerves if he is constantly re-exposed, it would be different if he lives in the classroom as he would be used to it.
also moving the cage too and from every day will be alot of work, and just imagine the mess if you dropped it one day.
one thing to note, I would not recommend shifting him from one cage to the next ie, one in the classroom one at home, that would be pretty terrifying for the little guy, unless, you give him a secure constant. hopefully your cages are adaquete size in which case i would recommend buying a small hedgehog house that will fit into the cages easily without taking up all the space, then use this to transport him (covering the door obviously)too and from. he will feel much safer in the house and that should be fine.mine are used to being transported from a shed to an avairy every day in the same way, so i should imagine that a cage to a cage should be fine too.
