would you be willing to take my guinea pig. he has been losing hair with red patches. eating normal poop normal/ but we haven't been able to spend much time with him and my boyfriend says he is allergic. sorry for rambling but i will be leaving soon for work. i am in oceanside calif

Answer
Angie,

You shouldn't be contacting people in this way to rehome your guinea pig. You don't know who could end up with him - contacting a stranger who is not only on the other side of the world but who you don't really know could result in serious consequences for you and your guinea.

I would appreciate it if you contact a rescue in your area - a famous rescue in California is Cavy Spirit - and surrender your pig rather than trying to rehome him through this site. Also try advertising him on Petfinder if you have no success in getting him to a rescue. For rescues in your area, search through www.cavyrescue.com and have a look through the rescues listed.

Also, if he is losing hair and has skin irritation, he is sick. You will need to go to a vet and have him treated BEFORE rehoming him - it helps rescues financially if they don't have to treat piggies themselves who have been surrendered. It's probably mites or another form of skin problem so it should not be hard to treat.

Best Wishes,

- Laura
