female and male together

Question
Hi! I have a 3 month old female guinea pig, and I would like to buy a 3 month old male guinea pig that I have had my eye on. I do not want to breed these two guinea pigs, I just want to have them both. I would like to get the male neutered, and then keep them in the same cage. I was wondering if there would be any sexual behavior between them, because I do not really want that. I dont want them to be mates, I just want them to be friends. Let me know how these two guinea pigs would most likely behave around each other, and any suggestions on what I should do. Thank you for your time! :)

Answer
Hi Claire.  Although I have never had a neutered male with an intact female, I would recommend you call the humane society and ask their opinion.  The humane society here spays and neuters their guinea pigs so perhaps your humane society does as well; and would be able to offer you a clear answer to your question.  I would be inclined to think that if he is neutered at a young age (under 6 months) that it would not pose a problem and they could be "just friends."  But I couldn't honestly say.
Good Luck!
