Age of guinea pigs

Question
How can you tell the age and sex when you are buying a guinea pig for the first time?

Answer
Hi Semih

The age of a guinea pig is quite difficult to tell and there is no sure-fire way of being sure.

If you purchase your pet from a reliable source such as a breeder, friend or reputable pet store, you should be able to trust what they tell you about the age.

Some piggies just look very young and are as little as 6 inches long. These animals are possibly less than 6 weeks old so are too young to be sold.

In terms of sexing, if you gently press the piggies tummy, a little penis will pop out. Take a look at the link below for some pitcures!
