Guinea pig with loose stools, are we feeding them right?

21 14:26:04

Question
We got our two female guinea pigs as babies at Petsmart on 8/
22/06.   We just noticed one had loose stools.  It was mostly
carrots in the stool.  What should I do?

I usually feed them dry food in a small ceramic bowl and fill in
half-way. In a separate bowl I  give them three carrot and two
green peppers or two oranges.  Is that an appropriate amount?  I
have tried mustard greens and they don't eat them.  They eat
any fruit or veggie right away and then will go to the dry food
and often don't eat it all.   Should I discontinue the fruit and
veggies until they start to eat the dry food?

Answer
Hi Francine

You certainly need to give less orange for the reason of loose stools and due to the acid content. you also need to ensure they have a daily supply of fresh hay as this helps aid digestion.

If the loose stools continue please either let me know or consult a vet as diorreah can be dangerous for small animals. ensure their liquid take-up remains high to replace fluids.
