Question
hello my guinea pig had a baby and has died. the baby is only a week and a half old and i have put him in with another guinea pig who has also had baby's hoping that he will feed from her witch he is doing but he is only feeding from one teat on her and im worried that if he dosent feed from the other teat as well she will get an infection from the milk building up in the other one. when i try to make him feed from the other teat she pulls away like she is sore and dosent want him near that teat. could there already be an infection and should i be worried about it?

Answer
i think it is unlikely that there would be an infection, they tend to suckle once every three to four hours throughout the day, the other teat could just be used when yu are not there. even if not then it would likely leak out naturally. but if you are right and she recoils from him suckling from that one then there is a chance that one has already set in, in which case all you can do is keeping checking and at the first sign of infection take her to the vet. on the part of the baby at one and a half weeks if there were no other pups in the litter it will have a fairly decent chance of suviving although you were right to put it with the other sow.

just keep checking it and the best of luck.
