Question
I have had gp's for many years, but with a lapse until recently. I purchased a baby gp a few months ago. At first she was docile and timid, then she "found herself" and started with usual sounds of contentment, calling for food and enjoyed physical attention. She now has started to have episodes of increased activity in her cage, kicking and biting the cage....at these times, she looks out of the cage as if she is calling my attention, but when I cuddle her, she will bite, and seems ill at ease. What am I doing wrong? I love her and want her to be happy..this behavior is a new gp experience for me. She has regular feeding times, hay, dry food, fresh veggies, and a chew cube for her teeth etc. so she is never without the necessities or physical contact or affection. How can I help Matilda love me as much as I love her?

Answer
there are two probable reasons,

the first is that she is living in too small a space, if you look up C and C cages it will usually tell you the size requirement for a living space, some guinea pigs dont tend to mind a smaller space others do which could be why she is more aggressive than others.

the second most likly is that, as with people, some are nice and some are not, there isnt really a cure for that.

I would say increased floor time as well as inceased cage space. if she is biting at her cage it is becaus she wants to be let out, and if she is biting you when you cuddle her it will be because she wants to be put down to wander.
