Bathroom Habits

Question
I adopted a young guinea pig, about 10 weeks old, two weeks ago. The past few days I have noticed that when the family tries to play with her she will simply stay near or on me the entire time, but will interact perfectly fine and comfortable with my husband and daughter when I remove myself from the area. She is always very playful with me, whether others are around or not. Also when others are around she will poo and urinate on me. Tonight even my daughter laid across my lap while we all played with our guinea pig. Our guinea pig climbed on top of my daughter and onto me and urinated immediately. Why is she acting this way? It is important to note she only goes to the bathroom on me when others are around and not when we are alone. Thank you.

Answer
I remember when I was young that one of my friends guinea pigs would do the same whenever I was petting them alongside him.

well that is interestings, first things first if you are all collectively playing with her for about ten minutes or longer then it is normal for them to poop. they eat and drink constantly so pooping and peeing constantly is inevitable. but the fact that she does it on you only when the family is around is strange. it could be that you all spend longer playing with her than you do when you're on your own, then her peeing no you could be just down to a combination of feeling it safer to pee on you and timing. otherwise it could just be nerves, it could even (though highly unlikely) that she is warning you or one of your family off, to ward off over active males they often squirt their urine in their face.

if she starts trying to nibble at your fingers before she goes then this is her trying to tell you to put her down and that she needs to go.

best of luck.
