QuestionI am a preschool teacher and we have two female guinea pigs in the same cage, both ready to give birth any day. Is it ok for them to stay in the same cage together or do I need to separate them?
AnswerAmber,
You'll need to separate the two mommies until the babies are 3 weeks old. Females get very aggresive towards other Guinea Pigs when they have their babies, it is their motherly instinct to protect their young. At three weeks old you can put all the females together in one cage and all the males into a separate cage, which is a good idea as males are ready to breed at just 3 weeks old.
Good Luck to you and I hope everything goes well for the two mommies.
Take Care,
Jules
