Question
Hi,my guinea pig had just gave birth to 1 pig,is it advisible to feed them veggies when they are a day old?.....And adout how long later then i can put back the male pig/let it mate again..?

Answer
Hello Stanley.

You can absolutely put the veggies into the cage, but i doubt that your piggies will eat them. It also seems at first all they want is the mother's milk. They will start eating them when they are ready. Sometimes it takes between 2 weeks to 5 weeks before they start appreciating them. Sometimes longer.

I wouldn't suggest putting the male pig back in for a while. It would be dangerous for the female to give birth back to back. Just remember one thing when you breed a piggie. There is a one in five chance of your piggie not making it through the pregnancy or birth. Those chances are upped as you breed her more. Just make sure your need for more piggies is worth the risk on your pig's life. I would venture to say you could put the pig back in after about 4 months, although i strongly recommend not breeding her a second time. As soon as your put your male back into the cage, he will mate with either his mother or daughter. If your planning on mating the dad with his daughter, wait until she is 6 months old before you breed.

Hope this helps
Christy :)
