Pregnant sow??

Question
Hello.  We adopted a mom-daughter guinea pair in early january.  We were told mom might be pregnant again because a male was present for a long time before they discovered their mistake.  We estimated that the latest due date would be march 7 or 8 (a vet helped me decide this based on the timeframe I was given).

Over time, we have noticed that mom has gotten pear-shaped with her belly becoming round, firm, and heavy.  I was expecting her to become massive..as that is what the photos in books look like.  But here we are close to the due date and, although she is big, she is certainly not massive by any means.  I feel her belly sometimes (I touch very softly) and I even stand her next to her daughter to compare how it feels and I definately am feeling something.  I feel bumps and vibrations...but I cannot feel skeletal structure or body parts.  So, I suppose I'm puzzled by how subtle it feels and how she has not become huge.  It seems like she grew and grew and then reached a point recently in which she just stays the same size..and has not become bigger.  Perhaps this could be a sign of one baby?  Should I be concerned?  I know this is hard without photos!

She is very healthy, has a great appetite, runs around in the mornings and does "pops".

Any info that can help me would be appreciated!!

Whitney

Answer
There is no reason to be concerned...she should be fine...just keep a vet's number handy!

If you feel the babies moving, she should be having them within 2 weeks!

the only thing you need to do to prepare is to be sure the food, water, veggies/fruits, and hay is all within reach!!

Good luck!!
