Guinea pig in the corner

Question
I'm sorry, I also sent this message to Alyssa, but am freaking out a bit.  I'm worried about my piggy.  I have 4 females and one neutered male living together. One of my females, Maya, has a UTI and went to the vet yesterday (she seems to be doing okay).  Cookie, is another female and is Maya's buddy.  Ever since Maya got back from the vet, Cookie has been sitting in the corner.  She is sitting right next to the hay and water bottle and I've seen her eat and drink.  I also put pellets by her last night and she ate them.  I'm not sure if she is just freaking out about Maya, maybe by her smell?  Or if she isn't feeling well?  No visible signs of illness and she is pooping.

Answer
Jamie,

Guinea Pigs develop strong bonds with each other, the longer they have been together the stronger the bond. Cookie knows something is wrong with Maya and is worried about her buddy.

As a result of the worry Cookie has become a little depressed. She just needs a little extra attention from you until Maya is feeling better and can reassure Cookie that everything is ok.

It is normal for Guinea Pigs to have such strong bonds, my 2 girls are inseparable. My youngest one cries if my older one is out of the cage without her for to long. With such strong bonds Guinea Pigs can become a little depressed when their buddy is ill and worries about them, much as we do when someone we love is ill. Just give Cookie a little extra attention until Maya is feeling better and able to comfort Cookie.

She should be back to her normal self in no time at all. She just needs to be comforted and have some extra attention. This'll get her out of her depressed mood, and let her know that everything is going to be ok.

Hope this helps. I hope Maya feels better soon.

          Take Care,
