Question
QUESTION: i think my 1 1/2 yr old piggie is pregnant with her second litter, will she be ok? also the father is her son will that effect the babies? i've noticed shes been gaining weight, i have three piggies and she was the smallest and now shes almost the biggest within a couple of weeks i want to find out how to tell if she really is pregnant.  im really afraid of how to take care of her and have healthy babies please tell me

ANSWER: Hi Jocelyn

Yes she should be fine and ok
What really worries me is that her son could be the father
There is a very high risk of the babies dieing or becoming deformed

To tell if she is really pregnant then have a look at her lifestyle
She will change her mood towards you and she will change her complete food habits
Her nipples will start to swell to get ready for milk
And her stomach will become pear shaped and round
You will also notice if you gently feel her stomach that babies will be inside they will only be very small and you might not feel them until week 5-6
But if you want the babies to be hopefully ok
Then m ake sure her diet is correct
With a healthy choice of fruit and vegetables also grain and a small amount of hay

There is a downside because she may have deformed babies in her she may miscarry them.

If you have any more questions then please ask Also Good Luck with them.

QUESTION: oh my godness can you please tell me more about the babies possibly dying or becoming deformed, what are the possibilities? have you seen deformed guinea pigs? is there anything i can do besides giving her a healthy diet?

Answer
Hi Jocelyn

I hope i did not worry you to much
There is a chance that they will die or become deformed but it may only occur in a few babies maybe none of them

I have seen deformed babies before but only once i i have been breeding for about 5 and 1/2 years now
And that was from brother to sister

So im sorry if i worried you to much

There is not much more you can do
But keep a close eye on her before the birth make sure that all the babies come out and are cleaned by there mother if not you may have to do it for her
The chances are that yes there is a high risk since it is inbreeding but they are chances that some babies may not be affected

Keep me posted On how she does and i will help you through this every step of the way
All the best Jocelyn
