Frantically worried about female guinea pig (over 10 months!) possibly pregnant

Question
Hi there

I bought a 6 month old boar and two 6 month old sows to breed with. I got a lot of advice form the breeder.

Then I 'rescued' another as it didn't have a home. it's a long aired one (purivean is it?? something like that) I was told she was also 6 months odl so I put her in with my little 'colony' and all seemed very happy!

Then I was informed paperwork was incorrect and she may be anything up to 18 months old!! Now I am worried she is pregnant and how she will cope if at all, please any advice appreciated.

Answer
Hi Tanya,

If she is 18 months old and hasnt given birth before then it is EXTREMELY bad, because after a guineapig is 12 months old, there hip bones fuse together making it impossible for them to support and deliver babies, if they give birth before 12 months then they can have babies over and over again after 12 months old because the streching of bones in a g pig pregnancy is permanent. There may be a chance of a caeserian, but im not a vet and wouldnt know, but i would reccommend taking her to a exotic pet vet and see waht he says. Hope this helps.
