Question
Hello Kat, how are you ? Cathy Havery here, just keeping you informed on the progress of Stripey the beautiful guinea pig !.
Well, twice a day she has had to have her abcess cleaned with a pink lotion, cotton buds, cotton wool, she has an anti inflamatory drug/antibiotic, at regular intervals. She is eating well, and my appointment at the vets went well on Monday. To spoil it all, Ive had a back to back New York again, which has meant ive had to hope my boyfriend has been looking after her !
So im very tired. I was over charged $60.OO, the nurse had estimated the original bill, but have since had to pay for some more drugs.
Im happy Kat, she is alive, eating well with her family, I love all my little piggies so very much, i would have been lost without you that night, so a VERY BIG THANK YOU , and lots of love from Cathy and Stripey, the piggy  ! x x x .
PS her tooth that fell out is growing back.

Question -
My 2 yr old cavy, who lives with her sister and male in big cage, has lost weight. A few months ago she had an operation to remove a lump from her ear, it was'nt cancerous, just a growth inside her ear. A few months later she needed an operation on both sets of teeth, as they had overgrown, her weight dropped dramatically, that how i knew something was wrong. Aprox one week ago, i noticed she has a bottom tooth missing. Just had my guineas out for a nice walkies ( I have 6 )and have noticed a severe swelling on her left cheek, her head seems massive on one side. could it be a cancereous growth, her weight has dropped again, and she is having great difficulty eating. Im so upset, id hate to loose her.Im sat here worring, i will take her to the vet tommorrow, should i expect the worst ?

Answer -
Hello Cathy,

It is possible, but, while I can't say for sure it isn't, I tend to think it may just be an abscess. She sounds like she may still have some serious tooth issues that either weren't totally corrected by the surgery or have reverted back inspite of it. Considering her previous lump (which I'm assuming was a benign tumor?), cancer is a possiblity but there is hope that's not the case. You should be prepared for the worst, but try not to get too upset because it's very possible it's not cancer and can be taken care of. If it's an abscess and tooth issues, it won't be easy but it can be corrected or at least can be controlled to an extent. I never thought I'd say this, but hopefully that's the case, since it's better than the alternative. You are right in taking her to the vet tommorrow, she definantly does need to go. Good luck. I'll be praying for her.

Answer
Hello Cathy,

Thank you for the update. That is wonderful news. My fiance was actually just asking if I'd heard anything else about "that piggy with the lump" last night. I'm glad to hear she is still improving. I know how scarey it is when they need emergency treatment in the middle of the night and no vet's open. I'm glad I was able to make that a bit easier on you and I'm very glad she's ok and it wasn't a tumor. She's a very lucky piggy to have such a caring owner.
