guinea pig with enlarged crusted nipples

My son has had a female guinea pig for 2  years now.  She has 2 nipples that have become very large and are crusted.  There is no oozing or anything like that.  My vet of 18 years does not deal with guinea pigs.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hello Diane and thanks for the question,

You might laugh at this answer but try "Udder Cream". It's true, GPs with hard calloused skin can be treated with udder cream. Apply it and wacth the GP. If the animal licks at it obsessively, get her a pet head ring. One of those rings that makes your pet's head look like a flower so that they don't pull out stitches. Treat her with the udder cream 2 times per day but discontinue if the piggy refuses to eat with the head ring on.

Your GPs udders will start feeling better and the accompanying pain will also subside.
