Question
I recently went to a pet store to pick up some more pellets for my GP.  There was a bag in there which said it contained vitamin C.  I asked the clerk if I needed to feed veggies with these pellets and she said no.  This didn't sound right to me and I wanted to find out if you have to give veggies with pelletts or if pelletts are sufficient?

Right now she is getting hay, pelletts, and fresh veggies daily.  She seems to be happy and everytime I get up or walk by her she squeaks for more food.

Thanks
Rebecca

Answer
Dear Rebecca,

Pellets for your guinea pig is a very good idea if you are interested in giving him/her vitamin C. The clerk however is correct. Pellets can be given without veggies. But when i give my guinea pigs vitamin C pellets i always give them a little assortment of veggies. Also if you are looking for other ways of giving vitamin C for your little cavie try ...
Cabbage
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Spinach (1 or 2 leaves a week)
carrots
swede
These all contain sufficient amounts of vitamin C.
Not part of your question but as you mentioned everytime she hears you she squeeks for more food, i recomend you do not feed her every time she squeeks as this will make her uncomfortably over weight. But feed her only twice a day.
I hope i have answered your question to your satisfaction and if not please do reply with more questions. Thanks for asking,
