Male and Pregnancy

Question
Hello,
I have two piggies one male and female. I was told they were both boys but one is pregnant. I can actually sit and watch the babies moving.

I had the male neutered yesterday and was told by one of the girls at the vets office not to put him back with the female cause she might try and take his stitches out. she told me to keep him out of the cage for about a week. Then she told me acutally it would be best if i kept him out until after she has the babies since he might hurt them. I have read alot and am confused over this since everything I read says males don't hurt the babies and might even help her clean them etc etc. Should I keep him out of the cage until she delivers?

Answer
Hi Corinne

The vet is correct to tell you to separate the pigs, but as far as I am concerned the male will not harm the babies in any way.

The reason to separate them is because the male will remain able to impregnate the female for another four weeks and may get her pregnant again after she gives birth.

I hope that helps.
