Guinea pig Poop

Question
My guinea piggy is still a baby and the past week has had diarrhea.  I stopped giving him fresh veggies and fruits for a few days but that doesn't seem to be doing anything.  He's not acting funny - he's still eating and drinking normal and being a happy little piggy - so i'm not sure what the problem is.  Him and my other piggy have both been to two diff. vets - both seemed inexperienced and couldn't help for the problems I brought them in for.  It doesn't seem as if anyone in my area deals with guinea pigs regularly. I'm not sure what to do.  Also - his poop gets stuck in his fur and between his feet.  Is there an easy way to realease it - it's not cuttable by scissors so i'm not sure what to use - and a wet washcloth doesn't work either.  Please help!!

Answer
Hi Tina

Diarrhea should always be treated seriously in piggies but in most cases it is just a case of an upset tummy.

The best thing to give your pig is some arrowroot powder mixed with water (let me know if you want to know dose amount) and lots of timothy hay.

If your pig starts to look ill and with a fluffed up coat, this indicates an intestinal problem which will need proper medication.
