Question
Hi - We just started giving our guinea pig fruits and vegetables. I'm not sure what he should have as I read that green beans aren't a good thing. I have silly questions like - if I give him a slice of apple is it ok to leave the peel on. If I give him an orange slice won't that be messy for him. Can he have bananas? I can go on and on!! Stuff like that along with what is ok and what isn't.  He has been getting peeled apple slices, kale, brocolli and baby carrots so far and gets so excited when we come toward him that sometimes I have to detour so I don't disappoint him! Help! :) Thanks!

Answer
Hi Nancy

Your questions arent silly at all.

Apple = You can leave the peel on.

Oranges = Yes they are messy but pigs have fun eating them, but dont give too much as the acid in the juice can cause sore lips.

Green beans = Because of their stringy nature, dont give these to pigs.

Bannana = Fine to give to piggies if he likes them.

The veggies you have been giving are all fine. Try small amounts of celery too. Most veggies are fine for piggies, just dont give much of items with a high water content such as lettuce and remember to suppliment the diet with plenty of hay.

I hope that helps.
