anaphylactic shock?

hi katie, i'm interested in buying a guinea pig but i read somewhere that they can cause anaphylactic shock in certain individuals. what would a guinea pig have to do in order for someone to be affected? would they have to bite you or is it just their presence that could set it off?
my brother is allergic to bees and goes into anaphylactic shock when he is bitten by them. is this the same reaction?
would you suggest maybe NOT purchasing a guinea pig?

I know many people are allergic to guinea pigs, their bedding or their hay, however I have yet to hear of someone go into anaphylactic shock because of it.

If you are worried about your brother being allergic to them, go to your local shelter or rescue to interact with them before adopting one.
