rex my male giunea pig

my female onyx just died. she had to be euthanized cause my ex boyfriend broke into my house & beat her up real bad. i was wondering if its true that rex can die of depression. should i get him another female so he wont get lonely & how will i know if he's depressed. what are the warning signs that its bad. thank you.

A guinea pig can mourn the death of a friend. They will act less active because they don't have a companion to play with and you will actually notice a change in the way they act. Guinea Pigs generally do better with another partner. I would get rex another friend of the same gender. I am so sorry that onyx died. It's sad to lose a pet.
