Question
QUESTION: Hi, how can i tell if my sow is in early pregnancy? We originally had two piggies believing they were both male, however, two recently became three. Another twist to the tale came about two weeks ago when unfortunately our bore died. Our mommy piggie is now drinking more and gets agitated when we pick her up, she seems to purr in an aggressive manner and tries to nip us until we put her down.I am a little worried because baby seems to be picking up this behaviour, could it mean that she is pregnant again so soon after having one baby? Other than this the vet says they are both in good health. Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Lorraine

It sounds like pregnancy is very likely. A female can become pregnant very soon after giving birth although this isnt ideal.

QUESTION: Hi again, just wondered about the baby piggies copied behaviour from her mother. Is this behaviour a passing phase just like toddlers behaviour in general.
Many thanks again.

Lorraine

Answer
Hi

Sorry I missed that bit, yesterday was hectic!

I tend to find that hand-feeding young pups can help because they can then distinguish between food and your hand. Either way, this copied behaviour shouldnt last long if you continue to handle the baby frequently.
