QuestionHi,
I bought 3 guinea pigs last Friday, they should of all been sows, today I discovered one is a boar. I have seperated them for the moment, I will buy another hutch.Should I buy another male to keep him company (he is between 8&12 weeks) There are some available from my local pet shop this Friday, or should I leave them seperated for now, and when he is old enough have him neutered and put him back with the girls.
AnswerHi Paula
Personally I would opt for getting another male. Although there are no guarantees they will get on, usually, if you get a very young male (6 weeks old) the older male will usually accept him and even "mother" him.
Be prepared for a little dominant behaviour from one or both males though as they decide which pig is boss. This usually lasts just for a couple of days and involves sniffing bottoms, chasing and the odd bit of humping. If any aggressive behaviour happens, please let me know.
