possible worms

my sons guinea pig stopped eating and drinking. a day later crust was on both of his eyes. we cleaned them off hoping maybe that would be enough. the next night we found what looks like a long worm hanging out his butt. what should we do? do they get worms like dogs?

I still have yet to find or receive an answer to if Guinea Pigs get worms or not. As far as I know I don't think so but as I said I have yet to get diffident answer from anywhere or anyone. It sounds though like he may have URI (Upper Respiratory Infection) or an infection of some type. Your going to need to get him to the vet ASAP as the URI or any other infection can kill him. The vet will put him on antibiotics for the infection for about 2 weeks or so. Antibiotics are tough on a Guinea Pigs stomach as they kill the bacteria in their stomach they need for digestion are killed when on antibiotics so give him a little live cultured yogurt before the antibiotics and a little more after 30 minutes of giving the antibiotics that why your replacing what bacteria that was killed by the antibiotics.
