ADHD Guinea Pig

Question
Hi! My friend gave me one of her guinea pig babies about 5 months ago due to him being an "issue to the other babies". I later learned that he was VERY dominate and squealy, not to mention hyper(which is typical for babies). He has a big clean cage, food and water access and gets attention, but for some reason, as he matures, he is getting very aggressive. He will charge the cage or at you, start his "warning" teeth grinding and "purring" and won't stop squeaking, even though he always has the best of care. I have tried keeping him in the garage, but the cats got sick of him squeaking and so did the neighbors. I tried having the only CD that keeps him quiet playing during the evening to try and slow him down which works...until the CD ends. Then he'll start all over again, bounding around the cage, screaming, chewing on the metal bars and crashing into the door repeatedly trying to get out.I have recently been putting the CD on autoplay, and now I am thoroughly sick of the music, lol. Do you have any advice on how I can calm down my guinea pig and also get some respect? Thanks!

Answer
Hello Haley,
your guinea pig purring means he's happy. You do have a guinea pig that's ADHD. I do hear that the scent of lavander is known for calming animals down. A lot of times I will light a lavander scented candle around my dogs to calm them. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I think you are right though, your guinea pig is training you to do whatever he wants you to do. Generally all animals are the boss and we are just there when they need us lol.
Have you tried taking him outside in a closed area to run around for a little while. Maybe he needs some entertainment and that's why the CD delights him. Guinea Pigs do like to observe a lot and have you tried having the T.V. on and seeing what that does. I'm just trying to think because some guinea pigs are just so odd it's really hard to figure out a solution. Do you have enough chew treats and stuff in the cage to keep him occupied? Maybe some treats like a shred-a-box or the eatable houses that they have could keep him busy for a while.
I hope I have given you new ideas. Good luck with your guinea pig. He's the first guinea pig I know of to have ADHD. Generally guinea pigs are so calm and loving.
