Retained Placenta?

21 14:10:26

Question
My guinea pig gave birth a few hours ago to two healthy little pups, but she's still giving off a slimy, gooey, bloody discharge. I only saw one placenta come out for sure, so could this be a retained placenta? Could it be something else? Should I take her to a vet, and how soon? She's running around and eating and acting fine in every other respect. Should I be worried this early on, or am I totally overreacting? Thank you for your help!

Answer
The female can be spotty for a few days after giving birth. If you only saw one placenta then she's probably retaining it. I would take her to a vet first thing in the morning if you don't see the second placenta. It's better to be safe than sorry, especially with guinea pigs. If I was in your position I would take her to the vet in the morning.
