clumped stool

Question
My 2 year old guinea pig is doing stools that are all clumped together when they come out, they're a litle bit soft but not runny, we stopped giving him fresh food for a few days and that helped but as soon as we gave him a little bit of carrot and celery he started doing it again. Should we take him to the vet? Or shall we just stop him eating fresh food for a while? If we do stop him having fresh food will he need vitamin supplements in his water?  I know that is a lot of questions but anyy advice would really be appreciated.
Thanks
Katie

Answer
Hi Katie and thanks for the question,

"Clumped" stool is a new one on me. Diarrhea can occur from too many fresh fruits and veggies treats but "clumped" is different.

I would call your vet. They will usually give you advice on something like this for free over the phone. I would also stop giving the fruits and veggies for a couple weeks maybe.

I don't like to use drops or additives in my GP's water. Good, fresh, water is best for GPs. Additives tend to turn water stagnant and cloudy. Your GP food blend (pellets) will have all the viamins you pet needs in a balanced measure. Give your GP ample amounts of Timothy Hay at ALL times. For this bout of stool issue I would replace the tim hay with alfalfa for a week or two. It has more fiber and will bind stool better.

Thanks and good luck,
Ryan
