Piggy Pick Up Woes

Question
Dear Andy,  I just inherited a sweet 3 year old male guinea pig named Nebo.  I am having difficulty picking him up.  I tried under his front legs and supporting his butt but to even attempt to pick him up he freaks out.  His previous owner was fabulous, and she said that she lays her hand flat in front of him and he steps up on to her hand and then she picks him up supporting his butt.  I tried this but I think since I've picked him up the wrong way (now 4 times since he arrived several days ago), he doesn't trust me in this area.  Last night I just spoke soothingly to him and didn't attempt to pick him up.  He is so happy once he's down on the floor eating kale and popcorning around!  It's just the getting him there that has both of us so upset!  Help!

Answer
Hi Amy

There is no hard and fast way to pick a pig up. You must remember that you are new to him so he might be a little scared of you. Give him time.

I pick my pigs up by just cupping them in 2 hands then resting them on my arm close to my body.

Give it time.

Andy
